MISC.

My Nick Cave’s Bar book and album is about the insane quest my best friend Andy & I went on in 1999 all because a complete stranger I met in Barcelona some months before had told me that Mr. Cave owned a bar in Berlin. We did no further research, didn’t even know the name of the place we were looking for, just flew to Germany intent on our particular mission. In the 20+ years since, it has become apparent that Nick Cave probably didn’t own a bar anywhere.

BUT! I have found that a venue did indeed exist in West Berlin in the early-mid 80s that this story was most likely based on. We just happened to be 15 years too late.

I spoke with Blixa Bargeld, Mark Reeder, Oliver Schütz, Wolfgang Müller, and Maria Zastrow for a look at the legendary Risiko venue for The Quietus.
